Inquest to be held for Bessbrook pensioner murdered over decade ago

Mr Carr was found murdered in his Bessbrook home in 2015

An inquest will be held in the New Year into the death of a Co Armagh pensioner found murdered in his own home more than a decade ago.

A murder inquiry was launched in November 2015, following the tragic death of Eugene Carr at his home in Bessbrook.

Mr Carr, who was 73, was stabbed with a hook during a robbery at his home in Clogharevan Park on August 31, 2015.

He was asleep in bed in the early hours when three men broke into the house. The pensioner was stabbed 15 times and cash was stolen during the break-in.

Mr Carr died in hospital 11 weeks later – in November.

No one has ever been convicted of Mr Carr’s murder.

A preliminary hearing was held in relation to the upcoming inquest into Mr Carr’s death before Laganside Court on Tuesday (November 3).

After hearing an update in relation to material and evidence to be provided during the inquest, the sitting Madam Coroner agreed to take a review on January 19.
