A Co Armagh bowling club looks set to benefit from a huge £135,000 investment in the coming months.
Bessbrook Bowling Club has secured the major investment following long and detailed discussions with Newry, Mourne and Down Council.
The money will go towards installing anew artificial green, which will allow the club the ability to host major tournaments in the future.
Sinn Fein councillor for the area Rosin Mulgrew says she is delighted with the investment.
“Over the last year a number of meetings have been held with council officials and members of the bowling club to highlight the unsatisfactory condition of the bowling lawn,” explained councillor Mulgrew.
“Members felt that the poor lawn condition was restricting the club ability to host high level competitions.”
She added: “Following on from those meetings and the concerns raised I can confirm the the monies have been secured to develop this state of the art lawn.
“It is expected that all works will be completed by the end of March in time for the bowling season.
“Lawn bowls has long been associated with the village of Bessbrook and is one of those recreational sports which appeals to all denominations, generations and genders and is to be welcomed by all.”
