Burglars try to make off with ATM during early morning raid on village shop

Shop forced to close for a time to repair damage left by intruders

Burglars have tried to steal an ATM from a shop in a south Armagh village.

It happened during the early hours of Friday morning – some time between 1am and 4am.

It happened at the Spar Millvale Services outlet on the Millvale Road in Bessbrook.

Burglars forced their way inside through the roof.

But police say attempts to remove the ATM from the premises was “unsuccessful”.

The shop was forced to close for a time to allow the owners to have damage caused during the burglary repaired.

Officers are appealing for information and help in catching those responsible.

Detective Chief Inspector Tate – who is leading the investigation – said: ”

Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting reference 198 01/06/2018.  Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
