The Woods family from Banbridge are taking part in this years’ team relay at the Belfast Marathon on April 30 by entering not one but eight amazing relay teams!

They are taking part in memory of Luke and Gina’s much loved dad Trevor (Woody) Woods to mark his 10th anniversary this coming July.

They are widely supported by their mum, family and friends.

Running in his memory, his daughter Gina commented: “Dad was an avid sports man, playing football and golf the majority of his life, as well as dabbling in other sports such as running, squash and cycling for fun.

“He would have been in the middle of all this encouraging everyone with the biggest smile and cheer on the day as they complete their leg of the relay.”

Amy Henshaw, Regional Fundraising Coordinator for the charity said: “We are extremely grateful to Gina, Luke and all their family and friends who have rallied together such incredible support for the relay. Marking Woody’s 10-year anniversary this way is so special and a great way to continue honouring his memory. Funds raised from taking part will help people in your community for whom the worst has happened meaning they require pre-hospital critical care at scene. Every day the medical team are needed on average twice per day.’

If you wish to support ‘Woody’s Wonders’ in their relay challenge for Air Ambulance NI you can visit their JustGiving link here: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/woodyswonders

It’s not late to sign up for this year’s event! Air Ambulance NI are keen to remind people of the range of events that will be part of the day on 30 April including an 8-mile walk, Team Relay with a shortest leg of 4.2miles, as well as the full 26.2 mile run and wheelchair race.

Amy added: “We are encouraging our supporters to register before the closing date on 7 April. Like the Woods family, there is still plenty of time to gather a few friends for the walk, or a group of friends or work colleagues for the relay. When you register you will have the option to support Air Ambulance NI. Please tick the box and we will be in touch with your digital fundraising pack and your invitation to the helicopter airbase so you can personally see the service you are challenging yourself for and supporting. We encourage all our participants to set up an eventmaster online page to maximise fundraising for your air ambulance. It could save a life!”
