Two people taken to hospital – one critical – following A1 collision

One person is in a critical condition in hospital following a serious road traffic collision on the A1 on Wednesday evening.

The NI Ambulance Service (NIAS) confirmed that two people were taken to hospital as a result of the three-vehicle crash near Loughbrickland shortly before 6pm.

A NIAS spokesperson said: “We received a 999 call at 5.39pm on Wednesday, 13 December following reports of an RTC on Belfast Road Area, Newry.

“NIAS despatched three emergency crews, a rapid response paramedic and two ambulance doctors to the incident.

“One person was taken taken to Craigavon Area Hospital by ambulance and another patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance.”

Police Inspector Tate said: “At approximately 5.35pm, we received a report of a three-vehicle road traffic collision in the vicinity of the Belfast Road.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or to anyone with dash-cam or other footage that could assist with enquiries to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1565 of 13/12/23.”
