Two men charged after seizure of £1.3m of herbal cannabis

Four others released on bail after cross-border operation

Two men have been charged following the seizure of £1.3 million worth of herbal cannabis in a cross-border operation.

The pair – aged 32 and 37 – have been charged with fraudulently importing Class B controlled drugs, possession of Class B controlled drugs and possession of Class B controlled drugs with intent to supply.

They are due to appear at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

The drugs were seized in a cross-border operation in Dromore, Co Down, on Friday, in an operation involving PSNI, Gardai and Irish customs’ officials.

A 42-year-old woman also arrested on Friday was released on bail on Saturday, pending further enquiries.

A 72-year-old man and two 68-year-old women have also been released on bail.
