Theft of flag and poppy wreath from War Memorial treated as ‘sectarian hate crime’

'The War Memorial is a place of reflection to remember those that gave their all so we could have peace'

Police are treating the theft of a poppy wreath from the War Memorial in Dromore as a “sectarian hate crime”.

A Union flag was also taken from a lamp-post and police are appealing for information.

The thefts happened some time between 7am on Saturday and noon on Sunday.

Those responsible have been condemned.

Local DUP Councillor Kyle Savage said: “The War Memorial is a place of reflection to remember those that gave their all so we could have peace.

“I would appeal to those who removed them to please think long and hard about your actions. The wreath and the flag will be replaced. We Will Remember Them.”

Police say enquiries are ongoing and nyone with information can contact the PSNI on the non-emergency number 101 and quote crime reference 1486 21/06/26.
