The parents and friends of Scarva Primary School are preparing to hold their second charity tractor run in memory of a valued member of the community, past pupil and parent.
On Saturday January 31, 2026 the Scarva Primary School Parents and Friends Association (PFA) will host the Andy Nicholl Memorial Truck and Tractor Run at the Scarva Community Centre, on the site of the village’s Orange Hall.
The event came about in 2023 after the passing of Andy Nicholl who was a member of the Scarva community, a past pupil of Scarva Primary school and a parent of a current and past student.
Unfortunately, in the Spring of 2022 Andy was diagnosed with cancer. He battled hard against the disease and made strong progress. Tragically however, it took hold and sadly on May 28, 2023, Andy lost his battle.
The event in November 2023 was an overwhelming success and a great boost for the community raising a staggering £35,000.
It was decided to donate £20,000 to the Cancer Fund for Children Charity, which was the charity the event was partnered with in 2023.
On top of this donation a £1,000 was donated to three other charities close to the school community and the school received £12,000, which they used to update a lot of the outdoor equipment in the school grounds, to change an interactive whiteboard in the P1/2 classroom along with other upgrades throughout the school.
The PFA were astounded by how well the event went and the tremendous support they received from local businesses and villagers.
This year, the PFA have chosen to support B Positive – a charity based in Banbridge. The parents of Adam Watson set up this charity to help improve the lives of children in Northern Ireland who have been diagnosed with cancer.
Adam sadly lost his fight against cancer in August 2022 but his parents continue to fight on to support families and children in similar situations.
All proceeds raised will be shared equally between B Positive Charity and Scarva Primary School.
Truck and Tractor parking will be in the adjoining grounds of Scarva House Demesne, generously donated by the Buller family and also thanks to the Baird family for the use of their yard at Scarva Auctions.
Registration on the day will commence from 11am with the run starting at 1.30pm. Entry fee will be £15 per vehicle and will include either a hotdog or bacon bap.
They will have live music, a bouncy castle, raffle and lots more to entertain not just the vehicle enthusiasts, but the whole community.
The PFA hope that after the vehicle run you can all join them back at the hall for some more family fun.
Said a spokesperson for the PFA: “We would be delighted to see as many people there as possible at this memorial event and to show your support to the Nicholl family, whilst raising vital funds for both the school and B Positive.”
