Returned for trial on attempted robbery and drugs charges

A Banbridge man has been returned for trial in relation to an alleged attempted robbery and drugs offences.

Appearing for a committal hearing was Edward Samuel Cowley, from Scarva Walk but remanded in custody, who is charged with attempting to rob a male of cash on April 13, this year.

It is further alleged the 32-year-old was in possession of cannabis with intent to supply, assaulted three police officers and resisted arrest.

A prosecuting lawyer told Banbridge Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Newry, there is a case to answer which was agreed by District Judge Eamonn King.

No details surrounding the circumstances of the alleged offending were disclosed during the short hearing.

Cowley spoke only to confirm his identity and that he understood the charges against him.

He declined to call witnesses or give evidence on his own behalf at this stage in proceedings.

Judge King remanded him in continuing custody to appear for arraignment at Newry Crown Court on November 7.
