Parents urged to check children’s Halloween sweets after needle found in Snickers bar in Rathfriland

Parents in the Rathfriland area are being urged to thoroughly check their children’s Halloween treats after a needle was reportedly found inside a Snickers bar given out while trick-or-treating.

The warning was issued by UUP Alderman Glenn Barr on Monday night after he was contacted by a local parent who made the disturbing discovery.

Sharing a photograph of the chocolate bar with the needle embedded inside, Alderman Barr wrote: “I’ve been contacted this evening by a local parent who has found a needle inside a Snickers bar their child received while trick or treating.

“I am asking ALL parents to please check all sweets and chocolate collected whilst out trick or treating before your kids eat them.”

He confirmed the incident had been reported and appealed for anyone who finds anything similar to immediately contact police.

“If you find anything suspicious please bag it, don’t handle it further, and contact PSNI on 101 straight away. I’ve reported this also,” he added.
