A Banbridge man accused of causing the death of one man by careless driving and causing grievous bodily injury to another will face Crown Court proceedings.

Harry McDowell, 20, of Ravenswood, appeared charged with two counts of causing death or grievous bodily injury by careless driving at Newry Magistrates’, sitting at Lisburn, on Wednesday.

As the charges were read out, it was outlined that the alleged offences occurred on October 28, 2017, on the Banbridge Road, Dromara with one individual dying due to the nature of the driving.

Appearing via videolink from his solicitor’s officer, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence barrister Kevin O’Hare made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Amanda Brady released McDowell on his own bail of £250 to appear before Newry Crown Court on a date to be fixed.
