Man (51) charged after guns and ammunition seized

A man is due to appear in court in Craigavon on Monday morning following the seizure of guns and ammunition over the weekend.

Detectives have charged the 51-year-old with ‘prohibition of possession of a firearm or ammunition’ and is due to appear at Craigavon Magistrates’ court, sitting at Lisburn, on Monday morning, March 27.

The charges follow a proactive police search at a property in the Garvaghy Road area of Dromara on Saturday, March 25 during which a number of firearms and ammunition were seized.

As is usual procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.

Elsewhere this morning (Sunday), in an unrelated incident, police have confirmed the seizure of two firearms and a quantity of ammunition in Ballinamallard, county Fermanagh.

The items were located in a hedge in the vicinity of Baragh Gardens by a member of the public on Saturday afternoon, March 25.

All items have been seized and will now be subject to forensic examination.
