A fundraiser has been launched for the family of a hugely popular and much-loved father-of-two from Banbridge following his sudden passing on Sunday.
The South Ulster Drumming Association launched a JustGiving in memory of Simon Glenn, a devoted partner, father, and passionate supporter of Lambeg Drums, whose passing has shocked an entire community.
Simon, who was in his 30s, was a well-known and much-loved figure at drumming matches across the region.
The Association said: “Simon’s enthusiasm, support, and good humour will be deeply missed.
“This fundraiser is a way for the wider drumming community to come together in his memory. All proceeds will go directly to Simon’s partner, Gabby, to support her during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindness and generosity will be deeply appreciated by those closest to Simon.”
So far the fundraiser has raised almost four times its original £1,000 target – a testament of how highly Simon was held within his community and further afield.
Tributes have also poured in from the many friends he had.
One lifelong friend wrote: “Not only have I lost my best mate but I feel like I’ve lost a part of me. 25 years of friendship can never be replaced. You’ve been with me through my ups and downs… You’ll always be missed, Simon Glenn – gone but not forgotten. Rest easy, Big Chief.”
Many have described him as an infectious young man, and one of life’s true gentlemen, who always wore a smile.
Simon’s funeral will take place on Thursday, August 7 at 12 noon in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Banbridge, followed by burial in Banbridge New Cemetery.
Friends are welcome to pay their respects at his late residence, 31 Dickson Park, Seapatrick, today (Wednesday) from 1pm.
He is lovingly remembered by his partner Gabbie, sons Tommy and Zac, parents Adrian and Joanne, siblings Jonathan, Nathan, Rachel and Lucy, and by Gabbie’s parents John and Stephanie Herron, stepfather Darren, stepmother Susan, and the wider family circle.
In lieu of flowers, donations are also being welcomed for Diabetes UK via James Minnis & Son Funeral Directors.
