Dog dies after being shot by police in Katesbridge

As is normal procedure, the office of the Police Ombudsman have been informed.

A dog died after being shot by PSNI officers in Katesbridge yesterday evening (Tuesday).

The incident occurred when officers conducting enquiries attended the property in the Knockgorm Road area shortly after 8pm.

Whilst police were in attendance, a dog in the property attacked the female occupant.

Police say they were required to shoot the dog to prevent it from attacking the woman.

She was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to her arm.

As is normal procedure, the office of the Police Ombudsman have been informed.
