Baptist Church members in Banbridge have been given the blessing of ABC Council to hold open air praise events in Solitude Park this summer.
The council has voted to give consent – required under bylaws – to allow the ‘Praise in the Park’ evenings to proceed.
These will be held on three Sunday evenings – June 7 and 14 and again on July 5.
The council owns Solitude Park.
And part of its by-laws state that, without council consent, nobody can “deliver, or read, any public speech, lecture, prayer sermon, or address of any kind, or sing any song, whether sacred or secular, or enter into a public discussion, or hold, or cause, or take part in public assemblage” in a “designated pleasure ground”.
Banbridge Baptist Church had written to council expressing the desire for consent to run the evening praise services.
Now granted, the Sunday evening services will run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm approximately on each of the three evenings.
