Ryan Williamson arrested

A street preacher in Banbridge was arrested and charged on suspicion of harassment earlier this week.

Ryan Williamson, sharing a video on social media, said he was arrested on Wednesday morning “for preaching in Banbridge over the last three months”.

In his video he said he spent four and half hours in the custody suite after “two car loads of police came to the house and arrested me”.

Adding: “…here we are once again, the PSNI being weaponised against the preaching of the gospel….it’s time for Christians to waken up.”

Mr Williamson said he has been charged with eight counts of harassment “against various traders who are opposed to the gospel”.

In his post he also wrote: “Christians stand strong for the truth of God’s word, you are the light in the darkness. Case going to the PPS.”

Mr Williamson said it was his intention to be back “preaching this Sunday in Banbridge Independent Methodist AM and PM, please feel free to attend.”

Police have confirmed that a 47-year-old man “was arrested in the Loughbrickland area on Wednesday, April 16 on suspicion of harassment has been released following questioning”.

“A report will be submitted to the PPS in due course.”
