Banbridge park bridge closed for over a year to reopen upon completion of £26,000 repair works

The contract has now been awarded and work is expected to start within the next fortnight

Solitude Park, Banbridge

A bridge that has been closed in a popular Banbridge park is due to receive repair works this month after being closed to the public for more than a year.

The Solitude Park footbridge – which crosses the River Bann – was closed in March 2025 by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council owing to structural safety issues.

The bridge functions as an access point to the town centre park from the Castlewellan Road and its prolonged loss has caused some frustration among the residents of the area in recent months.

Tenders for the repair works were invited by Council in March of this year with the estimated total cost set at £26,400.

The contract has now been awarded and the Council anticipate that works will commence within the next fortnight.

The bridge should reopen by the end of June.
