To celebrate an incredible milestone – her 90th birthday – this September a Banbridge woman will abseil the Europa Hotel, Belfast for a cause close to her heart.
The fearless nonagenarian, Reta Mulligan will set herself the “tall challenge” of abseiling the famous city-centre hotel to raise awareness and donations for Cancer Focus.
Like most family’s in Northern Ireland, cancer has devastated the Mulligan Family.
Nazie Mulligan – Reta’s husband – and father to five died in 1997, aged 63 after a difficult battle with cancer and most recently heartbreak struck the family again as Reta’s Son, Jim lost his battle with cancer, just weeks after celebrating his 60th birthday.
Reta, along with her son, Jason and son-in-law, Michael will make their descent on September 14, honouring the memory of both Nazie and Jim… and all those who fought or are fighting cancer, and the families this impacts.
A JustGiving page was set up to help raise funds with an overall target of £1,000. With just over a week to the big day, the donations have already tipped £1,500.
Regarding the impact of all donations received for Cancer Focus, the crowdfunding page explains: “With cancer expected to impact one-in-two of us during our lifetime, Cancer Focus Northern Ireland is dedicated to supporting local individuals and their families throughout their cancer journey.
“Your donation enables us to continue offering essential services such as counselling, transportation, family support sessions, art therapy, and more. As a local charity relying on donations for 90% of our funding, your support is crucial in helping us make a difference.”
