A Banbridge-based animal rescue are calling for urgent support with vet bills after three dogs in “horrendous” condition entered their care.
Paws and People – based on the Rathfriland Road – received three “precious little dogs” from the dog pound. All came to the rescue with matted fur, rotten teeth, poor skin and bad legs.
Two Yorkshire Terriers were matted with their teeth described as “horrendous” and “painful” by the non-profit.
A Pomeranian – now called ‘Bonnie’ – had skin issues and problems with her back legs which causes her to “limp or hold one of the back legs up a lot”. She is also in need of dental care after having a tooth “fall out in the vet’s hands” while getting vaccinated.
A plan is in place to also have the female dog spayed at a later date.
In a call for assistance on Sunday (June 21), the rescue urged: “We really need some sponsors for these three little dogs, to help towards their vet costs as its going to be very expensive, but I’m sure you can agree they deserve to be free from pain and suffering.”

Thankfully, public generosity has been overwhelming in the last number of days and donations have now allowed the rescue to pay off £430 from the bill for the Yorkshire Terriers’ dental bill.
However, they still owe the vet over £700 for the remaining dental bill and also for little Bonnie’s spay and dental work on Tuesday.
They added: “We have quite a lot of dogs due vaccines and Miss Bonnie will also need a second opinion on her leg, as our vets believe the leg joints are fused and that’s why she doesn’t walk on her leg. So any support at all right now is really appreciated.”
In lieu of donations, as not all are in a position to help financially, Paws and People are encouraging “sharing and commenting” on their post.
They are also currently collecting new or gently preloved items for an upcoming charity auction. Handmade items and vouchers for businesses are also greatly appreciated.
