Appeal for new father critically injured in Dromore hit-and-run surpasses £12,000

Friends who launched the fundraising appeal say the incident has turned 'what should’ve been one of the happiest times of their lives has turned into this nightmare'

A fundraising appeal launched to support the critically injured victim of a Dromore hit-and-run has surpassed £12,000.

Corey McKitterick, 28, was left hospitalised following a horrifying incident in the early hours of Sunday morning (June 28).

Video footage of the incident – involving a black Toyota Yaris on Market Square – began circulating online in the aftermath prompting several local representatives to condemn the sharing of images.

It has since come to light that Corey had recently become a father, welcoming a new-born daughter into the world with his partner, Brooklyn.

As he remains in hospital “fighting for recovery” friends have now launched a GoFundMe page to help his young family cover the cost of living in his absence from work.

The fundraiser explains: “…Corey and his girlfriend Brooklyn recently welcomed their new born daughter into the world, what should’ve been one of the happiest times of their lives has turned into this nightmare.

“As he tries to recover from his injuries he will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. This leaves the family facing the stress of paying rent, covering household bills and buying essentials for their new-born during this horrible time.”

Donations, they say, will go towards easing the “financial burden” so they can focus on what “really matters”, Corey’s recovery and caring for their new baby.

The page has so far surpassed £12,000 in contributions and continues to climb.

A 20-year-old man was arrested a short time after the incident on suspicion of a number of offences, including dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and driving with excess alcohol.

He has now been released on bail pending further enquiries.
