A young woman is preparing to represent County Armagh this Saturday in the Miss Universe Ireland 2026 competition.
Rachel McAlinden – a business and marketing executive, actress and musician – will proudly represent the Orchard County at the prestigious final in Dublin on June 20.
As part of her Miss Universe Ireland journey, she is working in collaboration with PIPS Suicide Prevention Ireland to raise awareness of mental health, suicide prevention, and the importance of seeking support.
Born and raised in Maghery, Rachel credits County Armagh’s rich culture, heritage, and tradition of storytelling for inspiring her lifelong passion for the arts.
“Growing up in County Armagh, I was surrounded by stories, music, football, and a strong sense of community,” Rachel said. “Those experiences shaped who I am and inspired me to be the person I am today.”
“I have always admired what Miss Universe Ireland represents,” she explained. “It celebrates women from all walks of life and encourages them to use their voices with purpose. It is a platform that recognises achievement, ambition, and authenticity while creating opportunities to make a positive impact.”
As part of her Miss Universe Ireland journey, Rachel is working in collaboration with PIPS Suicide Prevention Ireland, helping to promote suicide awareness, mental health education, and accessible support services.
Through her advocacy work, she hopes to encourage open conversations around mental health and help reduce the stigma that can prevent people from seeking support.
“PIPS carries out vital work across communities by raising awareness that suicide is preventable and ensuring that people have access to support when they need it most,” Rachel said. “Mental health affects all of us. My own family has experienced the devastating impact of mental health challenges, and I am proud to support an organisation that provides hope, education, and practical help to individuals and families.”
Representing County Armagh at Miss Universe Ireland is an opportunity Rachel says she is immensely proud of.
“To represent my county on a national stage is a huge honour. Armagh has given me so much, and I hope to make the county proud while championing causes that are important to me.”
As preparations continue for the final on June 20th, Rachel hopes her journey will inspire young people across Armagh to pursue their ambitions with confidence and never be afraid to share their story.
