Work has begun on the former Dunnes Stores site in the centre of Armagh.
The store at Upper English Street closed in the 1990s and the premises has lain vacant since then.
Proposals for the redevelopment of the site were submitted to planners at the start of 2021 by Drumarg Properties Armagh.
They involve the refurbishment and restoration of the existing building to provide a ground-floor retail unit, as well as three one-bed apartments and two two-bed apartments.

At the time a spokesperson for the developer said: “It will be designed in a way that it will incorporate two shop fronts, so it can be divided into two units or one unit, whatever suits the potential tenants. If anyone looks at the historical pictures they will see that it originally was two units.
“Originally, upstairs used to be a licensed premises. That will be gone.
“But it is now going to be refurbished into five high-end apartments.”
The apartments will be over three levels – first floor, second floor and roof space.
