Work to transform four derelict properties in Armagh city centre began this week.
A new year marks new beginnings and Upper English Street is set for an impressive makeover.
The old Cake Shop and former RJ Johnston’s shoe shop (numbers 18-20) are the first to see builders move in and rip apart.
Hoardings have been placed around the two properties with plans to renovate the entire three storey buildings to create two new high-spec shop units on the ground floor and nine town centre apartments across the second and third floors.
The same will happen over the coming weeks at the neighbouring property, which actually covers two numbered addresses (14-16) and was previously home to Wrights Soft Furnishings.
That building will be transformed into two separate shop units with a further four apartments bringing the total to four new shops and 13 apartments.
The developer told Armagh I that the first phase (18-20 Upper English Street) is expected to be completed by December 2023, while Phase Two is estimated to be completed by June 2024.
