Witness appeal after four vehicle pile-up in Armagh

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a four vehicle pile-up in Armagh.

The collision happened close to the Co Armagh Golf Club at Newry Road at around 7.40pm on Friday evening.

Police – along with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Serice and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service – attended the scene.

The road was closed in both directions, with Newry-bound traffic diverted away through Langs Crescent and city-bound traffic directed along via Folly Lane.

There was major traffic disruption as a result of the ongoing operation.

A police spokesperson confirmed that despite four vehicles being involved, fortunately nobody was taken to hospital.

But she told Armagh I : “Substantial damage was caused to three of the vehicles.

“Enquiries are continuing, and anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1118 of 11/01/19.”

A recovery truck had to be employed to take vehicles from the scene before the road was reopened to traffic.
