Willie’s thanks as second ‘Yarns’ book print run sells out raising £1,000 for Marie Curie

"I would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who bought the book and a special thank-you to all the shops who helped sell it... You are simply the best!"

A nostaglic look-back on tales from old Armagh will help make a difference to a much-loved local charity.

And the efforts are thanks – once again – to champion local fundraiser Willie Nugent.

The legendary Armachian’s book – ‘Yarns My Father Told Me Back In Old Gas Lane’ – has now sold out its second print run.

And, with that, it has enabled a delighted Willie to hand over a cheque for £1,000 to Marie Curie.

The book was first published in 2023, at £5 a copy, with all proceeds going to the designated charity.

Those who bought the second print – commissioned due to overwhelming demand – were treated to an extra yarn by Willie’s father, entitled ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’. And he also included the words of his song, ‘The Gas-lamplighter of old Armagh’.

Said Willie: “I would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who bought the book and a special thank-you to all the shops who helped sell it. These included Curran’s Spar, Raffles, Macaris Newsagents, Trimprint, Dessie’s, Pet World, Frances Ladies hairdressers, Gazette shop and Armagh Blooms.”

“You are simply the best!”
