Willie’s epic charity cycle for Cathedral 150th Anniversary Appeal hits £2,000 – and counting!

The cycle - from Downpatrick to Armagh - will take place next Wednesday and donations can still be made via a delighted Willie's GoFundMe page

A fundraising cycle by Willie Nugent from Downpatrick to Armagh has already hit the £2,000 mark.

And that sum is rising daily, with still a week to go!

Starting off at St Patrick’s Grave in Downpatrick, Willie intends to cycle all the way to St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh.

The big event is due to take place next Wednesday, September 18, with Willie started his own GoFundMe page in advance.

All money raised will go towards the 150th Anniversary Appeal of St Patrick’s Cathedral, the finishing point for the Armagh man’s epic cycle.

Willie – who admits there is “nothing I like more” than cycling – has been blown away by the support to date and is looking forward to the challenge.

He told us: “Since Armagh I announced two weeks ago that I was cycling from Downpatrick to Armagh to raise funds for the Cathedral’s 150th Appeal l have received over £2,000 through my GoFundMe page .

“To everyone who sent a donation I would like to say a big ‘thank-you’ – I appreciate every penny.

“I believe if you are always there to support others then, in times of need, someone will be there to support you.”

A very wise sentiment!

You can contact Willie through his GoFundMe page or leave a donation in the Cathedral Parish Office.
