Why is Armagh the only city in NI without a Euro 2016 fanzone?

Why is Armagh the only city in Northern Ireland without a designated Euro 2016 fanzone?

There was so much made of screening both Northern and Republic of Ireland games on big screens ahead of the tournament.

Even an amendment was passed at Council to that effect. But where are they?

Belfast has one, London/Derry has one, Lisburn has one and games have been shown on Newry’s big screen on their main street.

Back in November, a DUP motion to screen Northern Ireland games across the Borough was tabled with an amended to include Republic of Ireland games. That was passed.

Now, both teams are on the cusp of a wave, making history by progressing to the last 16 of the European Championships.

And both play this weekend. Northern Ireland entertain Wales at 5pm on Saturday while Republic of Ireland face hosts France at 2pm on Sunday.

What a weekend we have in store. Surely we can capitalise on this!

Armagh has hosted drive-in cinemas in The Shambles yard in the past. Surely there’s time for a fanzone this weekend?

Short notice perhaps but it’s a shame nothing was set up in the build-up to the tournament.
