An Armagh woman is one of a number of excited brides-to-be who have been informed that their wedding at a popular Castleblayney hotel has been cancelled.
It is understood the the Glencarn Hotel has cancelled a number of events and weddings over the next number of months for reasons not yet publicised by the venue.
Questions were raised on social media after confirmations and communions were also cancelled without an exact reason for such given.
The JivinGym was due to hold a fundraising event only to be informed “that the venue in question was cancelling all their shows in 2025”. They have rescheduled their June event to The Fiarways in Dundalk as a result.
On Monday, musician Michael English was forced to cancel an event for this Friday due to the continued closure of the hotel.
In a letter to staff, dated January 13, management wrote: “Due to late notice of commencement works by Monaghan Fire Authority we now project the reopening of the hotel to be March 14.
“We cannot appreciate you all enough for your hard work and dedication in the hotel and we hope you all have a wonderful New Year and of course hope to see you all back for another busy year.”
One Armagh bride-to-be was informed, through a distraught wedding co-ordinator, that weddings were being cancelled and couple were being notified on Wednesday (March 12).
The couple were due to get married in May but has to chase the hotel for answers, after repeated emails delaying the re-opening of the hotel. The news this week was a bride’s worst nightmare…find yourself another venue, effectively.
There has been, to date, no public announcement of the closure on the hotel’s website, or social media, with a veil of silence only adding to the confusion.
Armagh I tried contacting the venue for clarification but the phone calls went unanswered and no response to our email enquiry.
