Works to repair “unsightly and dangerous” boundary fencing on a main Armagh city road is to be repaired in the coming weeks.
The boundary fencing along the Friary / Ring Road in Armagh city has become “unsightly and dangerous” and in desperate need of fixing.
At some points it has fallen, in other parts some posts and fencing are rotten, loose and dangerous.
SDLP councillor Thomas O’Hanlon commented: “I have been lobbing a number of agencies over recent months seeking safety improvements. Some damage was caused by storm Éowyn, some was from long before that.
“This week I hosted a multi-agency meeting on site with the Housing Executive, Roads Service and Council to finalise a way forward.
“I am pleased to confirm that works will commence in the coming weeks to replace and repair vast sections of the fencing from Friary Road Car Park, past the Health Centre to the back of the properties at Emania Terrace.
“Works will also take place on the opposite side of the road on the fencing above the Athletic Grounds over to Niall’s Crescent.
“These works are very much needed and over due. This a key gateway to our City and it has become very unsightly. I’d like to thank all the representatives from the agencies involved and indeed to the local residents who have been working with me over recent months.”
Sinn Féin councillor John Óg O’Kane has also welcomed the confirmation from the relevant authorities that the fence is to be repaired.
The Councillor explained: “After contacting the relevant authorities about the fence on the Ring Road, it is always nice to hear that this is to be repaired in the next few weeks.
“This fence is located at the intersection of Ring Road and Friary Road and it serves as the entrance to Armagh City, it will be a positive to see the fence repaired and showing a better impression of our city.”
