Tynan man facing trial over high level drugs offences dating back four years

Armagh Magistrates Court

A County Armagh man is facing charges relating to alleged importation and possession of the Class A drug MDNA, more commonly known as Ecstasy, which date back almost four years.

Auryn Cox (24) from Coolkill Road, Tynan but currently resident in England is accused of being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion or attempt at evasion of a prohibition on importation of MDNA as well attempting to unlawfully possess the drug on March 14, 2020.

In addition, on August 20, 2020 Cox is accused of unlawfully possessing MDMA.

No details surrounding the circumstances of the alleged offending were disclosed during the short hearing before Armagh Magistrates’ Court, nor was there any indication of why there has been a significant delay in the decision to prosecute.

The case was listed for a committal hearing to transfer for trial at crown court however a defence solicitor requested and adjournment as Cox is currently residing in Manchester and some further legal consultation is required.

District Judge Anne Marshall agreed and listed the committal hearing to take place on March 5 at which Cox is expected to be returned for trial.
