Tributes have been paid following the death of a popular Armagh businessman who passed away peacefully – but unexpectedly – on Friday.
Januszewski Jacek, known to many locally as Jack, died on January 9, at Dietl Hospital in Krakow, Poland, in the presence of his loving wife, Monika.
Jack owned and operated a car wash and valeting business on the Hamiltonsbawn Road in Armagh and was widely regarded as a hard-working and friendly figure within the local community.
A death notice has described him as the dearly beloved husband of Monika, much loved son of Genowefa and the late Henryk, beloved son-in-law of Jan and the late Anna, and a loving brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.
Requiem Mass will take place on Wednesday, January 14, at 3pm Polish time (2pm in Northern Ireland) in St Jadwiga Church in Dębica, followed by burial in the Old Cemetery in Dębica. The Mass can be viewed via the church’s webcam here.
News of his passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across Armagh.
Former Lord Mayor, Councillor Sarah Duffy, said she was “shocked” by the news, adding: “Jacek was a lovely hard-working man who made such a positive impact in Armagh City. It was an honour to have known him. Thinking of Monika and everyone who loved him.”
One of the business park directors, where he operated Super Steam, described him as “a gentleman”, saying: “He always had a smile, a wave or a quick chat with everyone who passed his unit. He will be very much missed by everyone at Armagh Business Park. Our thoughts are with Monika and all his family at this difficult time.”
Tributes were also paid by the team at Bubba’s Project Gym, who said: “Shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Jacek. A perfect gentleman. You will be missed. Sending our deepest condolences to his family.”
Another local tribute read: “Shocked and very saddened to hear of the passing of Jack. He was a lovely friendly neighbour. Will be thinking of you all at this very heartbreaking time. Rest in peace.”
He is very deeply regretted by his loving family and wide circle of friends.
