Time for a comeback? Community calls for revival of Armagh Rotary Club

In 2021, the club closed due to Covid restraints and now eager members of the public are looking to re-establish the Rotary Club of Armagh

Community efforts are being made to bring back an Armagh-based Rotary Club four years after it’s closure.

Armagh Rotary Club was formed in 1944, and for almost 80 years provided local and global initiatives.

In 2021, the club closed due to Covid restraints and now eager members of the public are looking to re-establish the Rotary Club of Armagh.

Rotary members are people with a social conscience who want to put their skills and expertise into servicing the community, with a key focus on supporting local and national charities in need.

Locally, Rotary supports many worthy community and humanitarian causes such as Evora Hospice, SVP, Salvation Army, Dementia Care and Christmas appeals to name but a few.

Rotary’s motto is ‘Service above self’ and has a global network of more than 1.2 million members who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.

Currently, there are Rotary clubs in neighbouring Newry, Portadown, Dungannon, Lurgan and Banbridge, with a keen interest to put Armagh back on the map.

Rotary District Governor nominee, Kevin Powell said: “We are looking for local people who are passionate about helping where it counts. Whether it’s supporting local schools, helping those in need, or joining hands with friends around the world to fight diseases and promote peace.

“By bringing together people with different skill sets and giving them the flexibility to contribute as best they can, Rotary gets things done.”

If you are interested in joining, there will be an open night on Wednesday, October 8 at 5pm in Charlemont Arms Hotel, 57-65 Upper English St, Armagh BT61 7LB.
