TikTok-famous food reviewers have their honest say on Armagh’s ‘great wee spots’

The pair called both eateries -which they found via other TikTok reviews 'great wee spots'

TikTok famous food-reviewers The Kearneys have tried and tested two of Armagh’s most well-known eateries… and given their honest two-cents!

On their travels, the County Antrim husband and wife duo Darren and Erin Kearney – who have amassed a following of over 60,000 people across TikTok and Instagram – visited Armagh city’s only drive-thru restaurant, Maxxpresso.

They wanted to give the novelty of the drive-thru on the Ballycrummy Road a go instead of heading inside to order.

While they did say the digital menu changed a little too quickly for their liking they managed to “panic order” several items including a Katsu chicken jacket potato, strawberry refresher drink, ciabatta-style pizza slices and a matcha drink.

Their total order came to £18 which they seemed quite happy with.

Chowing down on their selected items, they took in their surroundings and eventually put two and two together realising that Maxxpresso and Maxx Life Gym are indeed sister companies.

This led the pair to assume that their food was of the low calorie, healthier option variety – something the team at Maxxpresso would no doubt be happy to hear!

Admittedly, neither Darren nor Erin were particularly fond of the bright pink strawberry refresher drink that Darren described as “quadruple strength dilutant juice”… but they did add that all refresher drinks from any establishment tend to be sweet and strong.

Darren enjoyed the ciabatta style pizza adding, “It’s not bad for a drive-thru pizza!”

Erin noted that her baked potato was crispy on the outside, even if it did appear that the potato itself was a little dry. Unfortunately, the Katsu curry just wasn’t to their liking, but overall, the pair agreed that they liked the potato and the curry separately… just not together.

They highlighted the “handiness” of the drive-thru for coffee, that there was plenty of “good stuff” on the menu including acai bowls, great parking and each agreed that they thought a lot of the menu was low calorie.

All-in-all the pair decided it was a highly recommendable “great wee spot”.

Next the pair also made a stop off at Armagh institution Bagel Bean – which they mistakenly referred to in their video as Bagel and Bean!

After having a minor argument over whether or not their drink choice was a smoothie or a milkshake, they decided to let the taste test be the decider… and they landed on smoothie!

The strawberry flavoured drink was listed on the menu under the ‘smoothie’ section but owning to its ingredients of strawberries, milk and vanilla milkshake the argument ensued.

Their order at Bagel Bean came to a total of £22.20 for two bagels and two drinks… which they initially thought might be “a little bit dear”, with Erin countering by saying, “not really, look at the size of the bagel!”

However, once Darren had wrapped his mouth around his breakfast bagel he said, “It’s lovely in fact! It would be deadly in the morning.”

Erin also loved her sesame bagel with chicken, bacon, red onion and sweet chilli mayo – known to locals, of course, as the BC Classic.

Of her “saucy” bagel Erin said, “That is class. Maybe a bit too saucy but beautiful.”

They ended by giving the Upper English Street establishment the thumbs up adding, “Bagel Bean, a cool wee spot.”
