
Emergency services rushed to the scene of a serious flat fire in Armagh on Friday night, in which three people had to be rescued from an upstairs property after becoming trapped by smoke.
Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said they received a call at 11.11pm on Friday, October 17, reporting a blaze at Culdee Terrace in the city.
Fire crews from Armagh, Keady, Newtownhamilton and Lurgan, along with two senior officers, attended the scene.
A spokesperson for NIFRS said firefighters were met with a well-developed fire in a ground floor flat, with people trapped on the floor above.
“Breathing apparatus crews rescued three people utilising smoke hoods,” they confirmed.
“A further person was treated for smoke inhalation before being taken to hospital as a precaution.”
Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, gas monitors and ventilation fans to bring the blaze under control. The incident was declared over shortly after 1am on Saturday morning.
The cause of the fire has been determined as accidental.
Police, who assisted emergency services at the scene, also confirmed that the incident is being treated as accidental.
