This is the shocking moment a man casually walked up to a pub in Armagh city and launched a petrol bomb inside, where people – including children – were enjoying live music.

Emergency services descended on the Toby Jug on Irish Street after the incident, which occurred shortly before 9pm on Monday.

CCTV footage shows the perpetrator calmly walking up to the front of the establishment and setting light to a petrol bomb. A child, walking on the opposite side of the street, realises something sinister is unfolding and makes off at speed.

Muffled shouting can be heard on the footage as the suspect steps inside and throws the petrol bomb.

He then walks off in the direction of Ogle Street as three people – including a woman and a young girl – run out behind him.

The man turns around and brandishes a large knife in their direction, which frightens those fleeing the pub, forcing them to stop in their tracks and retreat.

It remains unclear at this stage if anyone was injured in the attack.

It is also understood the suspect was arrested in the Chapel Lane area a short time afterwards.

Sinn Féin MP for Newry and Armagh, Dáire Hughes, said: “This was a frightening incident for those in the vicinity, and I want to commend the swift response from emergency services.

“Police will remain in the area over the coming hours as their investigation continues.

“My thoughts are with anyone who may have been injured or impacted by this incident.”
