Shock as popular Armagh cake shop to shut citing ‘rising cost of running business’

A popular Armagh city centre cake shop has announced it will be closing it doors for the final time next week.

Bake My Day – which is situated in the Armagh City Shopping Centre off Thomas Street – says it will cease trading on Monday, January 6.

Its owner, the talented master baker Paddy O’Kane, made the shock announcement on the business’s Facebook page on New Year’s Day.

He said: “As from the 6th of Jan 2020 Bake My Day will be closing. This is due to rising costs of running the business.”

He added: “We will honour all cake orders that have been taken up to the 11th of January 2020.

“Please note a few orders for later in the year we will be contacting you to refund or recommend another cake provider.

“On behalf of myself and loyal staff, I would like to thank everyone who has supported us through our years of business.”

It’s another local independent business lost in the city and is the second high profile cake shop to shut in as many years.

In 2018, The Cake Shop – a mainstay on English Street for many years – shut its doors.

As with Caroline then, we would like to wish Paddy and his staff well for the future and thank them for their service to Armagh.
