
The Royal Irish Fusiliers Museum, Sovereigns House, launched a temporary exhibition on Friday, May 9 to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The launch was attended by Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Kyle Savage, the Chairman of the museum’s board of trustees Brigadier Adrian Naughten, trustees of the museum and members of Portadown OCA.
Richard Doherty, an historian and trustee of the museum spoke at length about the regular Battalions of The Royal Irish Fusiliers during the Second World War.
John Shephard, the great nephew of Major William Shephard MBE also attended the event.
He spoke fondly of his memories with his great uncle, as well as Major Shephard’s time in Malta and Leros with the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers and being a Prisoner of War.
The launch was a great success and the exhibition will run until the end of May.
