Richhill man convicted for £16,000 benefit fraud

A Richhill man was convicted at Armagh Magistrates’ Court today (Monday) for claiming over £16,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.

Ciaran Magennis, 30, of Mullanasilla Road, claimed Universal Credit and Jobseekers Allowance totalling £16,904 whilst failing to declare income from employment.

He was given 100 hours community service.

The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

Magennis is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongly obtained to the Department.

Suspected benefit fraud can be reported to the Department for Communities anonymously.
