‘Rare’ Gun Salute scheduled for Royal School Armagh to mark Accession Day

The Royal School Armagh are set to host a very “special” gun salute to mark the King’s Accession to the throne.

The event will take place on school rugby pitch on Monday, September 8.

In a letter addressed to parents, the school explains “Royal Gun Salutes are the ceremonial firing of field guns to mark important occasions such as the King’s Birthday or his accession to the throne.”

The guns will be fired at 12 noon by the 206 (Ulster) Battery, Royal Artillery.

Added the school: “It is rare that Royal Gun Salutes take place away from Hillsborough Castle and all pupils and staff of the school are invited to be present for this unique event.”

Attendance is by invitation only and the school regrettably announce that it is not open to the wider RSA community.

Pupils will be in place from 11.45am and the salute will conclude for 12.08pm with each year group being given the opportunity to view the guns and have a photograph taken with them.
