People of Armagh invited to shape how city could be improved for its people

The Mall, Armagh City Centre

The people of Armagh are being invited to get their city into shape as part of an exciting new initiative that will look at how Armagh could be improved for its people.

The Armagh Place Shaping Plan is a new type of plan being taken forward by the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Community Planning Partnership.

Chair of the Partnership, Roger Wilson, says: “This will be the first locality plan for the Borough under its new community planning remit. It’s an exciting time for the city and we encourage anyone with new and fresh ideas for their city to get involved and attend the public open sessions.”

Urban Scale Interventions, a creative design studio in Belfast, has been appointed to take forward this work on behalf of the Partnership.

Partner Dr Jak Spencer explains: “At USI, we believe that places should be co-designed by the people who know a place best –
those who live, work and play there, and that’s what we are doing throughout 2021 in Armagh.

“We will be working with you to find creative ways of getting Armagh into shape as part of this work.”

The first opportunity to get involved is a series of “workout sessions” on 22nd, 24th and 26th March. Anyone who is interested in joining can register at www.shapingarmagh.com to receive updates and information.

For anyone with specific needs or who would like to find out other ways to become involved in the place shaping plan, please get in touch with khadidja@urbanscaleinterventions.com.

The plan will be developed throughout 2021 and further public consultations workshops, youth engagement, surveys and more will be taking place.
