Armagh gym creates brilliant free four-week lockdown challenge – and it starts Monday!

The team behind one of Armagh’s most popular gyms has devised a brilliant new four-week ‘lockdown challenge’ in a bid to beat the isolation blues.

The trainers at the award-winning Maxx Life Gym have been going above and beyond to help people workout and stay healthy at home – as well as putting a smile on members’ faces through their nightly online entertainment .

This fantastic Lockdown Challenge, which is available for free to everyone, is designed for people of all levels of health and fitness.

It’s a collection of mini daily tasks that, when all put together, create a healthy lifestyle.

Speaking to Armagh I, the gym’s owner Anto Maxx explained: “When we closed the gym, our top priority was to get all our loyal gym members and clients sorted with home workouts.

“Having never done any online live workouts before, our trainers all stood up to the task, brushed aside any camera shyness, and what began as one live workout has turned into a complete online resource of home workouts, nutritional information and motivational posts.

The Maxx Life team

“We often run health challenges within our gym community, and they are always free for our members. It’s one of our ways of giving extra value while bringing our community of members closer together.

“With all that is going on with Covid-19, it was an obvious decision to make all our videos, nutritional information and challenges free to everyone the community of Armagh and wider.

“We’re all in this together and Maxx Life wants to do our bit for the people.”

Challengers get to tick off each task as they complete it, such as a daily workout, having breakfast before 10am, having a home-cooked meal, drinking two litres of water a day and more healthy habits.

Each completed task is worth a certain amount of points, with the idea being that challengers try and score as many points as they can in the first week. Then try and beat that score for each new week.

Scores are never shared with anyone else; they are just to provide motivation and a target, and the only person you are competing against is yourself.

On the specific challenges, Anto added: “There is just something great about completing a task and ticking it off. And that’s what we’ve done with the Lockdown Challenge.

“Our Maxx trainers created a to-do list of healthy tasks for everyone stuck in lock-down, and based on each person’s fitness level, they have to complete the tasks, tick them off the list on their phone, and score points for doing so.”

Maxx Life is branded as ‘The People’s Gym’, and is Armagh’s award winning gym, scooping the gong for Best medium Sized Gym NI in 2019.

Within days of closing on March 16, their team of trainers transformed their jam-packed fitness class schedule, to an extensive online live workouts schedule, with 27 Live workouts each week, as well as a full schedule of other online entertainment.

They have live cardio workouts, strength workouts, workouts for beginners, workouts for new mums, workouts for kids, live spin and yoga workouts, and loads more.

All the live workouts are free and open for anyone to follow along. All workout videos are uploaded to their website for people to watch back and follow along any time they wish.

They’ve also packed our website with loads of nutritional information and meal plans, all for free.

All the tasks are already available to see on their website. And this is definitely one to get your friends and family on-board with, as everyone could use a little motivation during this challenging time.
