Masked gang attack lorry driver in early‑morning hijack bid outside Armagh

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a lorry driver was attacked by a gang of masked men armed with weapons in a rural part of Armagh in the early hours of Tuesday morning, July 7.

Police say they received a report at around 6.50am that several masked men had approached a parked lorry at the junction of Ballybrannon Road and Drummanmore Road and assaulted the driver before attempting to steal the vehicle.

The attempted hijacking and assault are believed to have taken place sometime between 4am and 6.50am.

During the incident, the gang made off with the lorry keys and the driver’s mobile phone.

Enquiries are ongoing and detectives are urging anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have seen suspicious activity or vehicles, to come forward.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone with dash-cam or other footage from the Ballybrannon Road / Drummanmore Road area during the relevant timeframe.
