Man kidnapped in Armagh city, bundled into boot and beaten with bars in ‘vicious’ attack

A man was kidnapped in Armagh, bundled into the boot of a car and attacked by a gang armed with iron bars.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following the report of the kidnapping incident in Armagh was made to police (yesterday) Wednesday.

Detective Sergeant Dave Stewart said the incident itself had happened at around 5.30pm on Sunday, July 26.

He added: “A man was walking on the Keady Road, near the junction with the Newtownhamilton Road, when a grey coloured saloon type car arrived in the area.

“Four unknown males exited the vehicle and assaulted the man with iron bars.

“The man was then placed in the boot of the car, drove for a period of time and three of the unknown males took him out of the boot and again assaulted him with iron bars.

“The unknown males are all described as approximately 5’8” in height, of medium build and all wearing dark clothing with their faces covered.

“This was a vicious attack causing the victim to sustain a number of injuries including a fractured leg.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area on Sunday 26th July and saw any suspicious activity, or anyone who may have captured any footage on their dash cam to contact detectives in Lurgan on 101.
