A 49-year-old male arrested in connection with the death a man in Armagh on Saturday night has been released on bail.
Nigel ‘Budgie’ Burgess died following an altercation in Ballynahone Close in Armagh.
A post mortem is due to be carried out today (Monday).
The man initially arrested following that incident has been released on bail pending further enquiries, police have this morning confirmed.
Detective Chief Inspector Michelle Shaw said: “Detectives continue to appeal for information and are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Ballynahone Close and who witnessed some form of altercation at approximately 10.15pm to get in touch.
“A post mortem examination will take place in due course to determine the cause of death.
“Anyone with information is asked to call our detectives on 101 quoting reference 2554 of 11/04/20.
“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
Lord Mayor of Armagh Mealla Campbell expressed her sympathies to the family.
She said described the news as “devastating”.
Said Lord Mayor Campbell: “My thoughts are with the wider family at this truly difficult time.
“He was such a well loved and respected member of the community. My prayers go to the family, friends and neighbours. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
Newry & Armagh Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boyle has said the news was “tragic and had caused great shock”.
And he added: “Anyone who may have some information that can help this investigation should contact police immediately.
“This is the most awful news for the family of the deceased to receive and they should be uppermost in our thoughts and prayers at this present moment.”
