
A man has been arrested following a series of assaults in Armagh city centre on Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after 2pm today, police received a report of an altercation involving two men in the Thomas Street area.
It is also understood that a woman was assaulted.
An earlier report was also received at approximately 1.40pm that a man had been assaulted by another man in the Market Street area, and pushed into the window of commercial premises.
The person was arrested outside St Malachy’s Chapel on Irish Street with an eye-witness describing seeing a man detained on the ground with ankle restraints and a spit guard in place.
A PSNI spokesperson confirmed that the arrested man remains in “police custody at this time, assisting with enquiries.”
Enquiries are continuing, and police would appeal to anyone with any information which might assist to contact them via 101, and quote reference number 834 06/09/25.
