‘Louder, prouder, together’: Newry Pride returns to city for another year

'We are all from different walks of life, backgrounds, lived experience, but today we celebrate as one'

Newry Pride will return to the city this Saturday (August 30) under the banner “Louder, Prouder, Together,” celebrating resilience, visibility, and chosen family in challenging times.

The event – organised by the LGBTQ+ Women’s Group Newry – will kick off at 11.30am with a “Pre-Pride session” at the Quays Shopping Centre with registration opening at the same location at 12pm.

In the opening paragraphs of their Festival Brochure for 2025, Daria – Chairperson of LGBTQ+ Women’s Group Newry – said: “You may arrive at Newry Pride this year buzzing for the celebrations, to share the day with loved ones, or carried by anger, defiance and a hope for a more equal future for all.

“Whoever you are, hear this: you are not alone. We hope that during this year’s celebration, you can find joy and connection to uplift and strengthen you.

“We are all from different walks of life, backgrounds, lived experience, but today we celebrate as one.”

The parade departs at 1pm from The Quays led by Grand Marshal Alexa Moore.

An outdoor concert will be held at 1.45pm at Marcus Square hosted by Brian and Daryl with live music to continue at 5pm with Joe Magees, Ceev and Jack.

The official pride after-party kicks off at The Whistling Donkey, hosted by Becky and Connor from Show Some Love, Belfast featuring burlesque, pole, and drag acts.

Family-friendly fun stands, food stalls and community info tents will surround the square all afternoon.

Of the 2025 event, the organisers have said: “This is a day to honour our joy, our history and our collective power. As we celebrate, remember to look out for one another – check on friends, lend support and ensure everyone feels safe and included.”
