Gallons of booze have been dumped after being seized from would-be teen tipplers.

The PSNI across the borough had promised safeguarding young people and cutting down on anti-social behaviour which would might have arisen from post-exam celebrations.

Over the course of Operation Snapper, police in the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon area seized hundreds of items of drink and over 200 prescription tablets.

Class A, B and C drugs were all found and confiscated.

Among the drink confiscated was 74 litres of cider, 22 bottles of Buckfast, 18 beers, 16 litres of vodka, 24 alcopops and five bottles of wine.

The PSNI had kept the public updated on the borough-wide operation yesterday evening and provided final tallies this afternoon.

Hailing the success of the operation, officers shared on Facebook: “Hopefully there’s a few less hungover teenagers out there than usual today! Hopefully even some at home who may otherwise be in hospital, or worse.”
