Approval has been granted for an extension to Lisnafeedy Orange Hall.

The works will see a new meeting room and toilet facilities added at the Wilsonton Road venue.

A planning application – been lodged by Eric Morton on behalf of Lisnafeedy Accordion Band – has been given the green light.

ABC Planning officers noted in their report that it was a “modest, single-storey building located in the countryside”, just over two kilometres from Milltown, Benburb.

“Given this is an existing community facility in the countryside, the principle of the proposed extension to the existing facility is therefore considered acceptable,” they added.

“The design of the proposed extension is sympathetic to the design of the existing hall, and will not detract from the appearance or character of the surrounding area.

“The extension will be finished with limestone chippings to match the external finish of the existing building.

“One window is proposed which will be white aluminium, to complement the windows of the existing building.

“DfI Roads were consulted in relation to this proposal. They advised the site access is of an adequate standard for the location.

“They suggested that the applicant should formalise an access to the car parking area to aid general road safety.

“Officers believe this is not a reasonable request. Given the modest scale of the proposed extension and given the proposed use of the extension (meeting room and toilets), it will not result in an intensification in use of the site.”
