Fears lives will be lost as hot weather sees young people back swimming in quarries

Swimming warning in quarries as temperatures soar

There are growing fears lives will be lost as a result of young people swimming in disused quarries.

The hottest two days of the year has seen teenage swimmers return to the disused quarry near the Navan.

It is not the first time in recent weeks that the young people have taken to the water there.

But one local mum, who asked not to be named, contacted Armagh I this afternoon and asked us again to help get the word out.

She said: “They were there yesterday and will no doubt be back today. The thought of it makes me feel sick.”

The PSNI has previously warned young people about the dangers.

There have been a number of fatalities in local quarries in the past.

Unfortunately, however, the message still is not getting through to some about the very real dangers and risk to life.
