Eye-witness’ shock after man arrested for indecent exposure in Armagh business premises

"He had no underwear on and everyone around could see everything!"

A man in his 60s was arrested in Armagh on Thursday night after being removed from a local business for exhibiting “shocking” lewd behaviour.

The incident occurred shortly before 8pm in the Upper English Street area.

An eyewitness told Armagh I: “When I came in, I noticed an older man sitting slumped on the sofa with his head down. Later on, I heard a bit of a scuffle and looked up to see two male customers of the shop dragging the man along the floor with his trousers down around his knees.

“He had no underwear on and everyone around could see everything!

“One of the other customers said that they thought he had his hands down his trousers before the men took him out.

“They took him out onto the pavement where he lay for a few seconds before trying to get back in pushing the door but the customers held the door closed until the staff were able to lock it.

“Everyone in the place was in a panic and worrying because no one knew what was going on. There were a few young children there who all seemed very distressed.

“The door was locked until the police came. It was really traumatising. I thought about it all night.”

Police confirmed they received a report of indecent behaviour in a business in the Upper English Street area of Armagh shortly before 8pm on Thursday, September 4.

Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene and arrested a man aged in his 60s on suspicion of indecent exposure. He remains in custody at this time.
